ECA ( Extra-Curricular Activities)
In Wembley Academy, we offer many clubs for students to participate as ECA [extra-curricular activities] plays an important role in shaping our students interests and allow them to discover their talent, creativity and innovation. We believe in providing our students a platform to develop skills, to gain confidence, and to discover their own potential and place in this world for true learning and development takes place in both inside and outside the classrooms.
CALLIGRAPHY
We first learnt the basic strokes of this art of writing. Then we did some basic calligraphy and faux calligraphy. In addition, we also learnt how to use the ‘Shadowing’ technique plus ‘Watercolour’ technique. The teacher, Ms. Shrmila also taught us how to make birthday cards and write messages or greetings using letters written in calligraphy style. What’s more, I also learnt the different types of brush pens that are used to write – Tan Ann Hui (Year 9)
CHESS & BOARDGAMES
What do we do at Chess and Game Club organized by Mr. Joshua? Simple: we play classic board games, such as chess, checkers, Monopoly, UNO and much more. I was thrilled to meet up with people to play with when we first met up on Wednesday, 16th January at 2.00 PM. After the usual introductions, I began to play chess with another member. To be honest, I am actually bad at this game. I lost a few games in the series but did finally manage to win at least one at the end. Yay! – Joe Khoy (Year 9)
COOKERY
My first cookery lesson was how to make the perfect French Toast. Students bring their own ingredients depending on what was cooking for that week as decided by Ms. Sarmini, our teacher. I believe cooking skills are important for everyone, plus it’s fun cooking with friends – Shanice Leong (Year 9)
DIGITAL MEDIA
My first meeting, we were grouped in three’s and given a task which was to find and interview a few students about their New Year resolutions. Some students were too timid to come forward while others were pleased to speak on camera. I had a blast carrying out this task. I can’t wait for next week’s meeting as the teacher, Ms. Simran said she will teach us how to edit the video we had recorded – Renee Ching (Year 9)
KOREAN LANGUAGE & CULTURE CLUB
I was delighted to learn that this year and for the first time ever, we had a Korean Language club organized by Ms. Ed. The first day, we elected the club president, vice and secretary. Then we discussed about the activities that will be held before proceeding to learn the Korean alphabet and how to say some basic words. Can’t wait to learn more! – Lee Yan Chern (Year 9)
ONLINE JOURNALING
Online Journaling is where you learn how to write newsletters, diaries, posters et cetera on a computer or other electronic devices. Ms. Shla, our teacher, said that we could also use photos, audio clips, and videos to fill out our journal. We also learn about selecting suitable fonts and colors which is very informative – Lee Jer Sean (Year 9)
SEWING CLUB
A sewing club is where we plan to meet on a regular basis to work on sewing projects such as needlepoint or quilting. On our first meet, we viewed a video on what the club is all about, as well as what we would need to get, example: a sewing kit and cloth. The teacher, Ms. Maureen plans to teach us the different techniques of sewing and I can’t wait to start! – Yap See Yin (Year 9)
SURVIVAL HACKS
I decided to be a part of this club because I wanted to know how to survive in the wilderness. The first essential task is to be able to ignite a fire since it protects you from the cold and predators and cooks your food. The teacher, Mr. Hii showed us a brief video on how to do so using a soft drink can, toothpaste and gauze or cloth. It looked easy in the video, but in reality, it is hard. I spent forty-five minutes just rubbing the bottom surface with toothpaste using a gauze to prep it so that it is able to reflect the sunlight. However, I only managed to get the surface ready about 55%. – Marcus Loi (Year 9)
K-POP DANCE CLUB
K-POP was really fun but then dancing is always a great activity. I made some friends and also learnt a lot of new steps. Plus, the instructor was also very kind and patient. I’m looking forward to having a really good time in this club – Olivia (Year 7)
GUITAR CLUB
This newly formed club is for guitar enthusiasts and is conducted by an outside professional tutor.
