Concert & Awards Day 2024

On the 7th of December, we had our much-anticipated Concert and Awards Day. The event took place in an auditorium in Kuchai Lama. Some of us had to arrive as early as 9 a.m. to prepare for the day. I could see all the crew members working tirelessly to ensure everything went smoothly on stage. Backstage was a hive of activity too, and that was where I was assigned to work as a makeup artist, along with my teachers. My task was to ensure that the characters were dressed according to the plan and looked good with their makeup. I was nervous, worrying about whether I could make the characters look their best. However, with the guidance of my teachers and the support of my crew members, everything turned out perfectly.

In the morning, we began rehearsals for the drama. This was the last chance for the performers to practice before the parents arrived. I was also informed that I would be one of the ushers for the day. After completing my backstage duties, I quickly got ready to welcome the parents. As an usher, I guided the parents to their seats and helped arrange the awards for the winners. It was exciting to be part of such an important roled for everyone.

When the parents arrived, the emcees of the day, Yut Wil and Rhiea, made a grand announcement to welcome everyone. It gave me goosebumps! The event started with everyone standing tall and singing “Negaraku” to show respect. Then, our beloved principal, Ms. Geetha, gave her speech. As always, it was inspiring and heartfelt. Following that, Ronn Ang, one of our seniors, shared his experiences and achievements in a speech that motivated everyone.

This year’s performances were incredible. The cheerleading team was adorable and full of energy, with excellent song choices. The Wiggle Dance by the SEN students was amazing, and their moves were fantastic. The Cowboy and Flower Dance had stunning costumes that stood out. The Decade Dance was a hit, with everyone dressed according to their theme. The Dikir Barat performance was powerful, with rhythmic and energetic moves. The Swimming Skit by the seniors was hilarious and had everyone laughing. My favorite was Chan Mali Chan—it was simply delightful. Other performances, such as the Tribal Dance, Cultural Dance, Flag Dance, and Hip Hop Dance, were equally impressive. The band also did a great job, even though there were a few minor technical errors; they managed to pull it off smoothly.

We also celebrated the graduations of Early Years students, Year 6 students, and our senior graduates. Congratulations to all of them! The awards presentation followed, where the highest scorers for each subject and the top three students from every class were honored. It was wonderful to see so many students recognized for their hard work.

Finally, the drama began. It was the highlight of the day. Every performer fully embraced their role, and the entire hall echoed with the powerful voice of one of the characters. The stage crew worked efficiently to manage the props and set changes. I even helped the mermaids get on stage, which made me proud to contribute to the performance. The hard work of every single person involved shone brightly.

This event is always the highlight of the year for us. We look forward to it every time, and it never fails to bring us joy and unforgettable memories. We’re already excited for next year’s concert!
