PATRIOTIC RUN
Last week, my school organized a Patriotic Run to celebrate Merdeka, the day Malaysia gained independence. This event brought students and teachers together to celebrate the meaningful day of Malaysia. We all had to arrive early in the morning. We stood on the field and sport house captains handed out wristbands with our flag on it. Teachers reminded us not to throw it because we need to show respect to our flag.
Before the games started, we stood in unison to sing the national anthem, Negaraku. I had never felt so much pride and joy filled the air since I was a primary student. After that, we pledged Rukun Negara. Earn Lin bravely volunteered and lead us through the pledge. After the pledge, the games started.
The games started as we were split into groups of juniors and seniors. Senior students were given an envelope and a map. Nicholas and I worked our ways to the first game, which we needed to identify Malaysia’s state name based on the map. We managed to identify all the states in the game.
The second game instructed us to arrange our prime minister in order since 1957 until now. We felt very lucky as we managed to score full marks for this game as well. As we advanced to third game, it was face painting. Seniors girls had done a good job painting Hibiscus on my friends’ faces.
Malaysia’s trivia game was the fourth game. We shouted Merdeka three times and the teacher in charge passed us the question paper. We requested Ann Hui and Nicholas for assistance and managed to answer most of the questions.
Finally, in the last game, we were given five lyrics and we need to guess the name of the songs. We tried our best to answer and managed to guess two songs out of 3 songs. We felt happy because all our efforts paid off. At 11am, we gathered back at the assembly point. Once we know that Ruby team got the highest score in the event, we felt very happy and proud of ourselves.
I had a lot of fun on that day with my friends and teachers. I hope can join more events in my school this year.
