Advise for IGCSE
My advice before the IGCSE exam is to start studying as early as possible. I started preparing for IGCSE at the beginning of Year 10. By practicing as many past year papers as you can, it is very helpful when trying to apply what you have learned in class.
The way I study is really simple but takes a lot of effort and dedication. Since school finishes at 3.00 pm at Sri Petaling campus, I use the homework guidance time to ask teachers on what I don’t understand in the past year papers. I won’t stop until I completely understand it. I also spend time trying the most recent questions. The key of this is endless repetition and to master the topics you do not understand as soon as possible.
In every past year paper, there are a lot of factual questions, so make sure you remember all of them. For example, in Physics there are a lot of definition questions such as, ‘Define electromotive force. – The work done per unit charge to drive a charge through a whole circuit.’ Keywords are everything.
The next thing you will realize by doing past year papers is you will be referencing to the mark scheme frequently, this tells us what actually gives marks and what does not.
The more you practice, the easier it gets and most importantly don’t lose hope in yourself. If you are Year 10 and still fail subjects, I have also been there. I remember my Add Maths was absolutely horrible, but when I actually put in effort, I ended up getting a B for school exams, which surprised me. Studying for me is endless practice and always remember that mastery takes time and effort, so when will your academic comeback begin?
